Week two already?! So let's recap: Matter is all around us – everything that takes up space and has mass. From the ground beneath our feet to the air we breathe, it's all made up of matter. Did you know that an atom is the tiniest building block of matter that retains all the chemical properties of an element? For instance, a gold coin is a bunch of gold atoms molded into a coin shape, with small amounts of other elements mixed in. It's mind-blowing that gold atoms can't be broken down into anything smaller and still be gold! These atoms get their unique properties from the tiny subatomic particles they're made up of.
